As Haiti tries to recover from the disaster, one of the greatest challenges will be rebuilding infrastructure that includes good sanitation, clean water, and meals for the displaced. But the mental health of thousands of Haitians will be an issue long after international aid workers have left the country. Psychiatrists say it could be months before victims and their families feel the full effect of the earthquake, and that, they say, is when their work really begins. VOA’s Melinda Smith has details.
George Galloway asks the racists who texted to his show (stroking their Hitler blowup dols) as to why are they listening to his show and texting racist messages, celebrating the earthquake in Haiti, which has killed hundreds of thousands of people (calling it a ‘Wonderful thing’ or a ‘Godsend’).Later on the show, a caller is accusing Galloway of not spending his time on discussing his home UK’s problems there, only for GG to shout him down as one of the racists who sent GG texts on praising the Haitian earthquake.Originally broadcasted on 16th January 2010.
The 2010 Haiti earthquake was a catastrophic magnitude 7.0 earthquake with the epicenter near Léogane, approximately 25 kilometres west of Port-au-Prince, the capital of Haiti, striking at 16:53:10 local time (21:53:10 UTC) on Tuesday, 12 January 2010. The earthquake occurred at a depth of 13 kilometres. The United States Geological Survey recorded a series of at least 33 aftershocks, fourteen of them between magnitudes 5.0 and 5.9. The International Red Cross estimated that about three million people were affected by the quake, and the Haitian Interior Minister believes that up to 200,000 have died as a result of the disaster, exceeding earlier Red Cross estimates of 45,00050,000. The earthquake caused major damage to Port-au-Prince. Most major landmarks were significantly damaged or destroyed, including the Presidential Palace (President René Préval survived), the National Assembly building, the Port-au-Prince Cathedral, and the main jail. To compound the tragedy, most hospitals in the area were destroyed. The United Nations (UN) reported that the headquarters of the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH), located in the capital, had collapsed and that the Mission’s Chief, Hédi Annabi, his deputy, Luiz Carlos da Costa, and the acting police commissioner were confirmed dead. Elisabeth Byrs of the UN called it the worst disaster the United Nations has experienced. As Michael Jackson said in Man in the Mirror, Make that CHANGE !Please Help Haiti and donate.
George W. Bush And Bill Clinton Hand Wipe Viral Video After Handshake On Haiti Earthquake VisitQuake Shake Bugs Germophobe George Bush 6:13pm UK, Thursday March 25, 2010 Robert Nisbet, US correspondent It’s the viral video, born of a former President’s apparent fear of bacteria.George W. Bush and Bill Clinton were on walkabout in Haiti when the 43rd President of the United States appeared to wipe his hand on the 42nd’s shirt sleeve after shaking the hand of an earthquake victim. As with most things political here in the US, there’s a clear division between left and right on how to interpret the gesture.Liberal blogs like the Huffington Post have been inundated with comments, accusing President Bush of everything from overt racism to contempt for the needy. Not wanting to seem unhygienic, I took a squirtBarack Obama, on meeting George W.Bush Right-leaning websites have, unsurprisingly, been more supportive, suggesting the camera angle exaggerates the wipe and that it may merely have been a signal for Clinton to stop chatting and get a move on.But President Bush has previous form as a germophobe, as described by none other than Barack Obama. After Bush showed the newcomer around the White House following the Democratic candidate’s victory in 2008, the two men shook hands in the Oval Office.According to Obama, Bush turned to an aide, “who squirted a big dollop of hand sanitiser in the president’s hand.”Bush then offered some to Obama, who recalled: “Not wanting to seem unhygienic, I took a squirt.”

Brand Blvd.Glendale, CA 91204Thank you for your support.http://www.artistsforpeaceandjustice….As you undoubtedly already know, a devastating 7.0 earthquake has struck Haiti. Its epicenter was just 10 miles outside Port-au-Prince, where our friend, doctor and community organizer Father Rick Frechette runs two pediatric hospitals, street schools in the slums, an abandoned children’s home and so much more. We’ve spoken to him and the news is terrible. Walls have tumbled like cards at his beautiful new children’s hospital. Their old hospital, still functioning, has collapsed completely. The orphanage has also sustained considerable damage, but no lives were lost there. We don’t know about any of the street schools we sponsor. It is even causing an old atheist like myself to pray. There is chaos everywhere. The sky has been described as filled with dust from the thousands of collapsed homes. Preliminary estimates are already placing the death toll at over 100,000.
