United Nations, New York, 19 February 2010 – (For translations see below) Demonstrations which began with the first rains last week are continuing throughout Port-au-Prince. In the neighborhood of Palace Petit Cazeau, nearly 100 angry survivors from last months earthquake took to the streets to protest against what they say is the governments lack of help.

After the catastrophic earthquake hit Haiti last week, the US is working closely with the UN and the Haitian government. The US army has been actively involved in helping distribute aid. But after decades of neglect, are Washington and other powers returning to a bigger role in this poor country? And would that come at a price?
